ID and passport system down, say Home Affairs
Technicians are monitoring the system and diagnosing the root cause of the problem, said the department.
WHILE smart ID card and passport facilities are expected to roll out at Nedbank’s Durban North branch on 1 April, the Department of Home Affairs announced that interruptions of the live-capture system is hampering the processing system.
“Modernised offices, which process applications and collections of smart ID cards and passports, have experienced unstable connectivity at different intervals. Technicians are monitoring the system on a 24-hour basis and diagnosing the root cause of the problem with the view to preventing further outages,” said the department.

Other services, for birth, marriage and death certificates, as well as amendment of documents, are not affected.
The department appealed for patience while the system is being stabilised.
“The department expresses its deepest apologies to members of the public for the inconvenience,” they said.
