Coronavirus cases rise to 402 in South Africa

The number of coronavirus cases rose by 128 from Sunday's figure of 274.

THE number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 402, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced on Monday morning.

The number rose by 128 from Sunday’s figure of 274.

The Northern Cape reported its first confirmed case.

“President Ramaphosa will address the nation on measures to be undertaken to mitigate the impact of COVID-19. We will thereafter engage the public to give further details and explanations on the results including the significant rise, the ongoing testing processes, each province’s progress on contact tracing efforts,” Mkhize said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa met with business leaders on Sunday to discuss the impact of the national state of disaster and engage on possible measures to mitigate the impact on the economy at large.

Sunday’s engagement with business leaders formed part of a series of meetings the President has held with various stakeholder constituencies – including communities of faith and the nation’s political leadership – in the week since his declaration on 15 March of the national state of disaster.
