uMhlanga residents start Facebook page to lift spirits during lockdown

The Facebook page called 'Africa Rock The Lockdown is a way of lifting the mood for those stuck at home during the lockdown.

TWO uMhlanga residents have started a Facebook page to share good vibes during the nationwide lockdown. Bruce Warren and Karen Hunter-Clark recently started the page called ‘Africa Rock The Lockdown as a way of lifting the mood for those stuck at home.

When the group started out it had around 300 followers but that figure has since shot up to 20 000 followers in less than two weeks.

“We actually started the group before the President announced the nationwide lockdown as we anticipated that would happen. I honestly expected around 500 people to join in but within three hours we had 1 000 people and then a little over a week later, more than 20 000 which is just phenomenal. We really felt we needed a space to share helpful tips, stories and funny posts to survive the lockdown.

“This pandemic has broken down borders, religions and races and the only way to survive this is to spread love and kindness. We also have a number of celebrities who have joined in and reporter Jayshree Parasuramen from East Coast Radio helps with accurate news concerning the virus. We’ve been overwhelmed by the positivity shown on the group and the support from everyone who has become a member,” Warren said.

Warren and Hunter-Clark, who are neuro linguistic programming practitioners, timeline practitioners and life coaches said they also wanted to create a safe space without creating a panic or spreading false news.

“We just wanted to keep spirits up, showcase love and kindness and ultimately have people from across the continent to share helpful ways of surviving this global pandemic. We are also working on a project, collaborating with other NLP Practitioners and counsellors where we will be able to offer our services free of charge to those who find themselves struggling mentally or who find themselves in a traumatic event during the lockdown. We hope our platform will continue to make a positive change and impact some of the negativity surrounding the coronavirus,” Hunter-Clark said.
