DA elects new councillor to stand for Durban North by-election
Shontel De Boer has been appointed as the DA’s candidate to contest the by-election in ward 36.
THE Democratic Alliance (DA) has appointed Shontel De Boer as their candidate to contest in the by-election in Ward 36, Durban North.
De Boer took over as the acting ward councillor following the departure of the previous councillor, Shaun Ryley.
Dean Macpherson, a former ward councillor for Durban North, made the announcement on Tuesday.
“Shontel is a dedicated and experienced public representative who has shown her ability to resolve service delivery issues for residents, as well as provide assistance whenever called upon, as she has done in Durban North since the departure of Shaun Ryley. I have no doubt that she will put a compelling offer to the voters of Durban North to lend her their vote and to serve them until the next local government election. As soon as we know the date for the by-election, we will advise voters but in the meantime, Shontel will continue as the ‘stand in’ councillor for residents,” he said.
De Boer said she became the acting councillor for Durban North at the end of December, last year.

“Working with such a proactive community in ward 36 and actually getting things done has been invigorating for me as councillor. I am very excited to be able to represent such an awesome community. They want to make things happen and work with the councillor. It is an honour to represent this community,” she said.
