AN e-hailing driver was rescued by members of Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT) after he was hijacked and kidnapped in Morningside on Friday last week.

Officers accidentally discovered the case after searching for a vehicle stolen from uMhlanga.

Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell said the SOT were assisting a tracking company to locate a stolen Toyota Hilux which was traced to Ntuzuma.

“We managed to locate the vehicle which had been severely stripped. While our Special Operations Team were on scene they noticed a Toyota Etios, with no front and back registration plates, speed past them. The team immediately started to follow the vehicle and after a brief chase the suspects abandoned the vehicle in the KwaMashu area.

“The suspects managed to evade arrest after fleeing into a shack settlement. Upon further investigation our team found the owner of the Toyota Etios, who is an e-hailing taxi driver, was locked up in the boot of the vehicle. The driver explained that he was hijacked and kidnapped in the Morningside area,” he said.
