VIDEO: Residents flock to Durban North post offices

Durban North Post Office saw an influx of Sassa beneficiaries while customers flocked to the Hyper by the Sea Post Office for licence renewals.

A LONG queue ran into the parking lot as residents flocked to the Hyper by the Sea Post Office to renew their vehicle licences on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) beneficiaries gathered at the Durban North post office on Adalaide Tambo Drive.

Durban North resident, Judy Bothma said she had visited the post office four times attempting to renew her licence.

Sandiya Rampersad stood in the queue for Sassa grants which snaked down St Andrews Drive from the Durban North Post Office.

“I came here three times, saw the queue and turned around. Then I decided I could not do that again because of transport costs. I also tried Umhlanga Post Office, but they are only taking 120 people per day,” she said.

The South African Post Office (SAPO) did not send their comment at the time this article was published however, in a statement made in June, SAPO spokesperson, Johan Kruger said post office branches are usually packed with Sassa grant beneficiaries on the 4th and 7th of the month while licence renewals lead to an influx of customers on the 21st of the month as the grace period for licence renewal cuts off.
