Man airlifted to hospital after Springfield factory accident
The man was entrapped under several metal pipes.
A MAN, in his 30s, is in a critical condition after a shelf, full of metal pipes, fell onto him at a factory on Aloefield Crescent in Springfield Park at around 12pm on Tuesday.
Spokesperson for Rescue Care Paramedics, Rowan Scandroglio, said the man was severely entrapped under several metal pipes when they arrived on the scene together with other private ambulance services.
“Rescue Care Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man while the Netcare911 rescue unit and the Durban Fire Department worked to free the man from the debris,” said Scandroglio.

Once free, the Netcare 911 Aero Medical Helicopter was called to airlift the man to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.
The events leading up to the incident are unknown however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
