eThekwini Municipality upgrades electricity customer care line
A reference number will be sent via SMS to customers who report a fault via WhatsApp or email.
THE eThekwini Municipality announced they will be upgrading their system for customers to report electricity faults.
The Municipality encouraged customers to report faults via WhatsApp or email rather than making a telephone call during the upgrade as the system may be down while the upgrade is in progress.

The announcement was made on the Municipality’s Facebook page.
“In our best efforts to provide an excellent service to all, we are currently upgrading as of today, 1 October 2020. During this upgrade, you may experience difficulty reaching our Electricity Contact Centre via telephone. To report electricity faults and outages, WhatsApp 076 791 2449 or email custocare@elec.durban.gov.za,” read the post.
When reporting a fault, the Municipality asked for residents to include their name, surname and contact number as well as the full street address of the affected premises and a description of the outage or fault.
“You will then be provided with a reference number via SMS. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” said the Municipality.
