WATCH: Third green mamba rescued from Durban construction site
Nick Evans, a local snake rescuer, and founder of KZN Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, said habitat destruction was a main threat for green mamba populations.
SNAKE catcher, Nick Evans recently rescued his third green mamba from a construction site north of Durban.
“The main threat to green mamba populations is habitat destruction. This particular site, in the Sibaya area, is a great example of that,” said Evans.

He said the area was once coastal bush and has now become a mix of construction sites, newly finished flats and office blocks.

He caught the green mamba on the scaffolding at the site.
“Luckily, the construction crew did not want to see the snake injured or killed, so they called,” he said.
