ActionSA Ward 36 Councillor Candidate Bruce Taylor
Background: I’m a resident of Durban North and a member of Action SA Provincial Executive Council standing for Ward 36 on a simple promise: fix it once, properly. I’ve taken the time to analyse the public record of service delivery failures in Ward 36. From this a plan has been developed which is part of the 10-point plan advocated by Action SA to fix eThekwini. I don’t see the point of rushing feverishly from one water leak to another just because an election is coming up. My focus has been to develop a plan that can be implemented through proper governance. I have an academic background which includes a B Comm degree in Strategic Planning and Management, a Diploma in Business Management and a Certificate in Impact Assessments.
My professional work in livelihood restoration, carried out in South Africa, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and Namibia follows a methodical approach which is based on International Finance Corporations Performance Standards. I will apply this experience and knowledge to four priorities which is replacing failing water mains, rebuilding the electricity network, securing sewer pump stations and easing congestion at different traffic choke points within the Durban North area. I’m a fifth generation farmer, military veteran and former Durban North Community Police Forum executive member (2021 to July 2026), I also co-ordinated relief after the 2021 unrest and the 2022 floods. I speak English and isiZulu.
Top priorities
- Proper governance and adherence to municipal by-laws
- Replacing failing water mains,
- Rebuilding the electricity network,
- Securing sewer pump stations
- Easing congestion at different traffic choke points within the Durban North area.
