Two motorists escape shootout on N2 near uMhlanga
The victims noticed the sliding door of the taxi open and a man opened fire on them.
TWO men escaped unharmed when a gunman opened fire on them while they were traveling north on the N2 between uMhlanga and Sibaya Casino this morning (Tuesday, 16 February).
Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said the suspects, who were travelling in a Quantum Toyota, fired with a high calibre rifle at the victims.

Balram said RUSA members were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10.07am after passersby called to report the shooting.
“On arrival reaction officers located the taxi on the median. The occupants were not in the vehicle however after a brief search the two were located on the south bound lane. The driver explained that he and a friend were traveling to Mandini north of Durban when a white Toyota Quantum drove up alongside him. He noticed the sliding door open and a man, who was armed with a rifle, opened fire on his vehicle. He swerved and drove into the median after one bullet shattered a rear window on the driver’s side,” said Balram.

The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage.
SAPS did not send their comment at the time the article was published.
