Durban North Library starts new chapter after lockdown closure

Since reopening the Durban North Library's operating hours have been extended.

AFTER their doors were shut for months with the Covid-19 lock down, the Durban North Library wished to inform the public that their doors are open again.

What’s more, their operating hours have been extended.

Acting librarian Lungi Mthethwa said the library is open from 9am until 4pm during the week and from 8.30am until 12.30pm on Saturdays.

“We have a wide range of books for all ages. we encourage the public to visit the library,” she said.

The library has also resumed their holiday programmes for children. These will continue subject to Covid-19 protocols.

“Through our outreach programme, we are trying to get children excited about the library. Now days, children are spending a lot of time scrolling on phones or watching TV. With the outreach programme, we go to schools to do a presentation for Grade R and Grade 1 learners. At times we invite them to the library so they see the different sections of the library. We teach them how to use the library and we explain the different sections of the library. We show them where the to find the children’s section and the types of books they can use,” she said.

For more information, call the library 031 563 4066 or email durbannorth@durban.gov.za.
