Additional charges added in million rand uMhlanga ransacking case

Police confirmed that the suspects have been released on bail.

MORE details have emerged following the arrest of two suspects involved in the ransacking and theft of a fully furnished home in uMhlanga.

The suspects, who allegedly live in the Upper Highway area, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of housebreaking and theft and were released on R5 000 bail each.

According to Executive Neighbourhood Security (ENS) spokesperson, Hayden Conradie, the suspects ransacked an uMhlanga home of goods worth R2-million including the homeowner’s car, a BMW 650i.

“More charges are expected to be added by the investigating officer in due course and our investigations into the matter are continuing,” he said.

Police have confirmed the house targeted in this case was owned by the family of a deceased uMhlanga businessman.

Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North SAPS confirmed that additional charges would be added to the charge sheet.

“We are also warning residents, who may have homes in the area and are either living overseas, to ask friends and families to look out for their unoccupied homes or contact your security company to do regular patrols. We are also asking if anyone has been a victim of this sort of crime to contact the station,” he said.
