A SECOND suspect caught tampering with a street light on the M41, near uMhlanga, was arrested last week by officers from Bidvest Protea Coin.

“Our officer was patrolling at Sunset Crescent when he spotted the suspect on the M41 interfering with the street light poles. He was removing steel plates from the poles and as our officer approached him the suspect ran into oncoming traffic.

“A short foot chase ensued and the suspect was arrested a few metres away from the scene of the crime. He recovered seven steel plates. The suspect was handed over to the Durban North SAPS. This is the second arrest in recent weeks where suspects have been tampering with street lights on the interchange or the M41,” Goosen said.
