Residents welcome reopening of Durban North pool

Ward councillor, Shontel de Boer has also welcomed the news and asked residents to comply with Covid-19 regulations.

LOCAL residents have welcomed the reopening of the Durban North swimming pool which had been closed for several months.

Durban North resident, Chris Pollard celebrated the good news by having a swim at the public pool last week.

“This means so much to me. I used to train three times a week and I’d try to swim a kilometre each time. However, since the pool’s closure, I’ve really suffered not being able to access the amenities. I’m relieved and excited that I can get back to my routine ahead of a hot summer.

“This pool is a huge boon for the residents of north Durban and I’ll be here as often as I can now. On a busy day, virtually every lane of the pool is used, which proves how popular it is,” Pollard said.

Ward councillor, Shontel de Boer also welcomed the reopening and said the city had used the lengthy closure to perform much-needed maintenance on the pool and the site.

“Some areas of the pool that needed attention have been retiled and the staff have managed to do some maintenance on the pool for the reopening. It’s great to see the community’s reaction, which has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Staff have also done a few clean-ups around the pool site and improved on the green spaces within the compound. I must remind residents that there are Covid-19 regulations in place that need to be adhered to,” she said.

The Durban North pool is open from 6:00 to 17:00 (Monday to Saturday) and Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00
