WATCH: Smooth start to election day at Greenwood Park, Glenhills and Sunningdale voting stations

Northglen News spoke to some voters about the process.

BAR a few hiccups, this year’s Local Government Elections got off to a smooth start in Ward 110 (Sunningdale and Glenhills) and Ward 34 (Greenwood Park) on Monday as queues of residents stood in line to cast their vote.

The stations were among more than 23 148 voting stations across the country.

Northglen News spoke to a number of voters on the day and here is what they had to say:

Eranee Morgan, a Sunningdale resident said the whole process was a painless one.

“The IEC officials were extremely helpful and the whole process went smoothly. The voting queue wasn’t that long, so that was a bonus too. I’d encourage other voters to come down and cast their vote as soon as they can,” she said.

Greenwood Park resident, Joan Rorke said she too was impressed with the how quickly the queue moved.

“Everything was in order, including the Covid-19 measures, which I was most impressed about. We are just so happy we were able to cast our vote,” she said.

Leading up to the elections, the Electoral Commission announced that more than 1.7 million voters registered during the special two-day registration weekend that took place in September.

The day also marked the use the new Voter Management Devices (VMDs) that are being used for the first time on a mass scale.
