Glen Anil businessman shot in attempted robbery

Armed suspects attempted to rob a business premises on Columbine Place.

A MANAGER from a Glen Anil business was shot and wounded in attempted robbery on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 15:20 on Columbine Place.

According to Marshall Security’s spokesperson, Tyron Powell, one of the armed suspects was also shot during the incident.

“An attempted business robbery led to a shootout between staff members and armed suspects. During the shootout, one of the staff members was wounded. Netcare 911 were notified and arrived on scene a short while later. Due to the severity of the wound and the condition of the victim, a helicopter airlifted the victim to a hospital. It is believed that one of the suspects was also shot during the robbery, but managed to flee the scene in an unknown getaway vehicle. Nothing was taken during the robbery,” he said.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst, the patient sustained a serious injury to his leg and was treated on scene by emergency care practitioners.

“Reports indicate that an armed robbery had taken place at a business premises. During an exchange of gunfire between staff and the armed robbers, an adult male employee was shot through his leg. Once stabilised, the patient was flown by helicopter to a specialist trauma facility for the care he required,” he said.

The scene was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS.
