Durban North youngster secures second SA title
The Grade 3 learner at Glenashley Junior Primary School won his second back-to-back South African 50cc motocross crown.
THERE is no way to stop Trenton Kretzmann, especially when he is on the race track.
The Grade 3 learner at Glenashley Junior Primary School won his second back-to-back South African 50cc motocross crown.
Kretzmann outshone his closest rivals in the 13-race series for the national crown as he won seven races.

Incredibly, his worst performance was a fourth place finish in the national series.
“I’m very happy with my performances this year. After being crowned the SA champion last year, I knew it was going to be much tougher. It was,” he said. “The competition was stiff, but that is what made it more exciting. I think some of the competitors in the series also made use of oxygenated fuel, which helped when racing inland. However, that made it that much more challenging and helped me build my confidence on the different tracks.”
One of the aspects of the national series that excited the 9-year-old was being able to race in a higher class.
“At some of the race meets I got the opportunity to move up to the 65cc class. This changes everything as those bikes are more powerful, handle better in the mud and have gears. It was such an amazing experience racing in the 65cc at the Terra Topia New MX Track in Centurion. I had the chance to ride the 65cc during last year’s series as well and I’m still getting to grips with changing gears, but it is exciting. I also find that with the 65cc you clear tabletop jumps so much easier,” he said.

The talented rider also praised his parents for their support.
“I wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of this without my parents, who have been so supportive. To be successful in the sport you have to practice and try out different tracks to learn. They take me to all my race meets and for training. It’s thanks to them that I’ve gained so much experience, which has helped in the champs,” he said.
