Greenwood Park CPF sub-forum needs community’s involvement

There has been a spike in break-ins in Glenhills with Orthman Road, Ryde Place and Terrence Place targeted specifically.

ACTING chairman of Greenwood Park CPF Sub-Forum 5, Mondli Mchunu, has urged the community to stand up and fight back against crime.

According to Mchunu there has been a spike in break-ins in Glenhills with Orthman Road, Ryde Place and Terrence Place targeted specifically.

While one suspect was caught red-handed last week by a community member, Mchunu said it is now incumbent for the community to act and get involved within the CPF structure.

“We need residents to make their voices heard. The CPF is the community’s voice for combating crime and transparency. The Sub Forum 5 recently held an election for its portfolios and I was elected as acting chair, however, we did not have people present to ratify the results. We are now hosting another meeting on Monday, April 4 at the Greenwood Park SAPS boardroom in the hopes of registering new members, getting new blood and diversifying the CPF as well as ratifying results,” he said.

Mchunu, who is also a member of the Glenhills Ratepayers’ Association also touched on the collaboration needed between security companies, the SAPS and residents.

“We really need to stand up and take back control of the crime situation which has spiraled out of control in some sectors. We have the support of various security companies and the Greenwood Park police but now we need the support of the residents. We hope residents will support the meeting and formalise the structure of the sub-forum,” he said.

Mchunu said positions that needed to be voted in were a chairman, deputy chairman and a secretary.

“In doing this we will then need to regularise meetings and set up a structure that can allow for neighbourhood watches to be coordinated to create better collaboration between SAPS and local security companies. The end goal would be to see more community cohesion especially within the CPF,” he said.

  • The Sub-Forum 5 meeting takes place on Monday, April 4 from 18:30 to 19:00 at the Greenwood Park police boardroom.
