WATCH: Community assistance and beach clean-ups a priority for The Litterboom Project

This may be one of Durban's biggest beach clean-ups and The Litterboom Project needs your help.

THE Litterboom Project is looking for donations of food, blankets and other items which families affected by the floods can make use of.

The organisation is responsible for the largest scale river interception programme which advocates for ridding the ocean and rivers of plastic.

Teams have held several clean-up campaigns along beaches and rivers in the north Durban areas.

Cameron Service CEO and founder of The Litterboom Project said the beaches are strewn with plastic which teams will get to cleaning up soon.

“In my 34 years of living in Durban, I have never seen anything like this. Right now, we want to prioritise human life first so we are calling for help in the form of donations to assist those who have been affected by these catastrophic rains,” he said while at the uMngeni River mouth earlier today.

Items can be dropped off at SA Harvest at Kings Park Stadium in Durban.

“Any [cash] donations sent to us this week will all go towards clean-up efforts once the rain stops,” he said.

“This will need to be Durban’s biggest team effort,” added Service.
