Parkhill centre aims to provide calm after the storm

Donations can be made to the Wellness Centre Trust via electronic transfer.

‘ONE brick at a time, we will help the community rebuild’, says Eloise Briggeman, CEO of The Wellness Centre Trust, located in Parkhill.

The organisation launched a special project on Freedom Day, with the sole purpose of helping people affected by the recent Durban flood, to rebuild their homes.

The Angel Network of Durban is partnering with the trust in this specific project and will assist with the reconstruction.

“Many of our candidates have indicated that the biggest issue is that their homes are no longer liveable. Parts of them have washed away or have water damage and need to be replaced,” said Briggeman.

“We have asked Angel to hand in quotes for the building materials they need. Another candidate’s toilet was washed away. The toilet bowl itself is fine but he needs new pipes and connection pieces and waterproofing for the roof. His quote is R2 500,” said Briggeman.

The Wellness Centre Trust is assisting one case at a time and hopes to help as many people as possible.

There are five people who have been identified so far, and once they receive the help they requested, the trust and its team plans on tackling more cases.

“We are aware that there are numerous people who need help, but we will need to take it case by case.

“We are asking the business sector and locals to help us help these individuals by donating cash or supplies to the project,” said Briggeman.
