A FORMER maths educator from Sunningdale has published two novels, one about the July unrest and the other a novel based on romance, titled Lea.

Louisa Bezuidenhout said she had journalled her experience of the KZN riots and after reading through it one day, she realised that there are others who would like to read about her account.

“During the unrest, family kept calling to check in and tell us that they were praying for us, but I think those living out of the province didn’t truly know what we were going through. I wrote this book to educate and motivate people, who were not among the riots,¨ she said.

Titled Durban Unrest Bezuidenhout describes the book as an easy read which is very much her spiritual journey through the riots.

“Even though I taught maths, I always loved to tell stories. That was my way of teaching and I found that leaners understood their work better through story telling,” she said.

The book was published in November 2021.

While the ball was still rolling, Bezuidenhout decided to complete a book she had started 10 years ago, which she also published in 2021.

“I started Lea about ten years ago. It’s an Afrikaans novel, completely fictional and is a romance which is suitable for all age groups,” she said.

“I want my readers to get the message that dreams do come true, but not without obstacles sometimes. This book is ideal for learners doing Afrikaans as a first or additional language,” she said.

Bezuidenhout is now writing her next book which is a series of short stories, called Letters to my Grandchildren which she plans on publishing in July.

“My new book will comprise quick, five minute reads. My main aim is to give people hope,” said Bezuidenhout.
