Man arrested for cocaine possession in Red Hill

The suspect was arrested on Glenrose Road by police officers conducting an operation.

A 46-YEAR-OLD suspect was arrested in Redhill on Tuesday evening for being in possession of rock cocaine to the value of R5 200.

Provincial SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, said police officers from the Stabilisation Task Team arrested the man on Glenrose Road in Red Hill.

“Police were following up on information about a man who was in possession of a firearm and selling drugs in the Greenwood Park area. They spotted the suspect driving his vehicle without headlights on at night and stopped him. The driver tried to flee but was immediately caught.

“He was found in possession of a pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition. The suspect’s car was also searched, and police found 31 bags containing pieces of rock cocaine hidden under the driver’s seat. Further investigation led the team to the suspect’s house where zip bags containing rock cocaine were found on top of his bed,” Gwala said.

The suspect is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs.
