No confirmation on ‘national shutdown’ plan, says Durban North/uMhlanga CPF

THE Durban North/uMhlanga (DNU) CPF has urged residents not to share unverified voice notes and messages on social media platforms over a supposed national shutdown on Friday, June 10.

Darryl Oliver, public relations for the DNU CPF, said they had received a number of queries regarding the shutdown.

“As it stands, there is nothing firm or confirmed by any party or organisation at this stage. Nonetheless, all key role-players have contingency plans in place. However, we do not anticipate or expect major disruptions. We request residents not to share unverified posts regarding the shutdown and urging residents to urgently stock up,” he said.
Yesterday the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) issued a statement saying there is no plan to participate in a shutdown.
“SANTACO has never lobbied any organisation for a national shutdown, and there is no plan to participate in any shutdown. As the transportation sector, the organisation holds the strongest view that there’s an urgent intervention needed from government due to the fuel hikes,” the statement read.
