uMhlanga Rotary club induct new president

THE Rotary Club of Umhlanga (RCU) recently inducted its 50th president, Vanessa Champion, at a special luncheon.
Champion, an uMhlanga resident, said this year, the club’s projects included creating community vegetable gardens at the local crèches and schools that the RCU support.
“We work closely with the Sinqobile Crèche in Avoca Hills, Natest Primary School in Mount Edgecombe and a number of schools and crèche’s in Inanda. Through this project, we aim to ensure that not only are the learners’ school meals fortified with fresh veggies, but that they can also be allowed to take home some each day to add to the family meal that night. For the Rotary club, early education is of paramount importance, and we know the importance of healthy bodies and healthy minds,” she said.

Champion said the club will also look to the more affluent schools in the community to assist with the projects.
“As Rotary is a non-profit organisation (NPO), we will be looking to the public to assist us, going forward, with seedlings, compost, fertilizer and soil, as well as JoJo tanks to ensure the gardens are well looked after,” she said.

The club meets every Tuesday, except the first one of the month, at AHA Gateway hotel from 18:15 to 19:30.
