Ryde Place resident left frustrated over strewn rubble

Mamzee Hendrix said a burst water pipe led to the surface of the road being damaged, and the subsequent repair to fix the leak has now also impacted her driveway, making it more difficult to access.

A RYDE Place resident is at her wits’ end and says she has made numerous attempts to get a heap of rubble removed from her verge outside her home for almost a month.

Mamzee Hendrix said a burst water pipe led to the surface of the road being damaged, and the subsequent repair to fix the leak has now also impacted her driveway, making it more difficult to access.

Hendrix said this happened when municipal workers had to dig a deep hole to access the pipe and fix the leak.

“That was done, but they initially left a massive,w gaping hole on the road which could’ve caused a serious accident. Shortly after the repair, the rubble was left strewn on my verge and the hole filled but not done properly. The problem now is that due to the haphazard job, two vehicles cannot pass abreast of each other. The road surface is also starting to sink in outside my driveway which is cause for further concern as it could impact my home.

“Due to the burst pipe, my driveway has also been compromised, and accessing it requires us to drive at an angle. My concern is for unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians who are also at risk. Besides dealing with illegal dumping encroaching on our properties on Ryde Place, we also have the damage to the road surface to worry about. I’m also not sure how much water I lost and will only probably find that out in my next bill,” she said.

Hendrix said she has contacted the eThekwini Municipality on a number of occasions without success and has also sought the help of Ward Councillor Aamir Abdul.
