Durban North police foil planned business robbery
Three suspects, aged between 32 and 39, were charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen property.
THREE suspects have been arrested after police received a tip-off about their plan to rob a business in uMhlanga.
One of the suspects arrested was also wanted in an attempted Cash in Transit (CIT) robbery.
According to eThekwini District Communications Officer Captain Carmen Rhynes, two firearms were also recovered.
“The wanted suspect was allegedly driving a white Toyota Hilux and accompanying him was a silver Hyundai I20 with two other suspects. According to the information received from crime intelligence, the suspects were planning to commit a business robbery in uMhlanga. Later that evening, a tactical takedown by Durban North SAPS and security partners was executed whereby all three suspects were apprehended,” Rhynes said.

Two firearms were recovered, one of which had its serial number filed off, and a second firearm was linked to a Brighton Beach case.
Police also impounded the vehicles – the Hyundai I20 was fitted with false plates and was linked to a Pinetown carjacking case while the Toyota Hilux was also fitted with false plates and a false disc.
The suspects, aged between 32 and 39, have been charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen property.
“The two firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine if they have been used in any other crimes, and the suspects will be profiled to check for any links to other criminal activities,” she said.
