Umhlanga service club welcomes new members
The Rotary Club of Umhlanga welcomed two new members and are looking for more to join.
FOR the Rotary Club of Umhlanga, making a difference isn’t just a mission, it’s a way of life.
With a strong focus on leadership development, community service, and personal growth, the club continues to play an active role in uplifting local communities, while fostering friendship and fellowship among its members.

Club president Cohan Arjoona says Rotary involvement builds stronger individuals, and more connected and compassionate communities.
“Membership in Rotary makes you a better citizen. You become more aware of the needs around you and more capable of meeting them,” he said.
True to their hands-on philosophy, the club has recently been involved in the restoration of homes in Tongaat following last year’s devastating tornado; a project that also included the near-complete rebuilding of a local crèche.
“We like to be active on the ground, where the help is needed most,” said Arjoona.
Another recent initiative saw the club donate gas stoves to Sinakekele Children’s Home in Oakford, Verulam.
The Rotary Club of Umhlanga has also shown a deep commitment to youth development, particularly through its Interact and Rotaract Clubs.
As the club looks to the future, Arjoona is eager to see it grow, both in numbers and influence.
“Our club is ageing, and to ensure that the Rotary Club of Umhlanga continues to thrive, we must welcome new members and fresh ideas. We’re also seeking sustainable projects and partnerships with other Rotary clubs to broaden our impact,” he said.
New members are already feeling the rewards of being part of the Rotary family.
“I joined Rotary for an opportunity to serve my community and advance the goodwill of peace around the world,” said Clement Ngcobo.
For Barry Todd, the decision was equally clear: “Rotary is a long-established organisation committed to dignity and service. It was the only choice for me.”
The Rotary Club of Umhlanga meets every Tuesday evening from 18:15 to 19:30 at the Breakers Hotel conference room on Lagoon Drive.
Visitors are always welcome. A light dinner is available after meetings, though not compulsory.
