Durban North ‘greenies’ to join global clean up
The club is calling on schools, businesses, community groups and environmental organisations to take part in the clean-up.
GREEN Buddies Environmental Club will once again roll up its sleeves and join millions of volunteers worldwide for the annual International Coastal Cleanup 2025, set to take place at Blue Lagoon Beach.
The international campaign, recognised in more than 100 countries, encourages communities to take collective action against marine pollution by removing litter from beaches, rivers and waterways.
Durban’s coastline, known for its natural beauty and rich marine life, is increasingly under threat from pollution. The event aims not only to clean up litter but also to inspire a shift towards sustainable practices and long-term environmental awareness.

“This initiative brings together schools, organisations, corporates and the community with one goal which is to protect our oceans,” said Ashlin Ellan, chairman of the Green Buddies Environmental Club.
“It is not just about cleaning the beach for a day, but about changing mindsets and building a culture of environmental stewardship in Durban. Together, we can ensure that our coastline remains a source of pride, beauty and sustainability for generations to come, ” he added.
Those interested can contact Ellan on 079 025 5291.
The Durban clean-up will start at 09.00 at Blue Lagoon Beach.
