Durban North community’s involvement needed for fun day

The fun day takes place in Briardene in December where hundreds of children will be treated to activities, gifts and meals.

WITH the Durban North Community Kids Fun Day just days away on December 6, organisers are calling on residents, businesses and local groups to rally behind the much-loved event by donating toys and offering their support.

Now in its second year, the fun day aims to spread joy to 1 200 children and 200 mothers from the Briardene informal settlement and surrounding areas.

Last year’s inaugural event saw more than 1 000 children enjoy a day filled with games, music, creativity and meals all made possible by the generosity of over 150 volunteers and countless donors.

Event co-founder Sam Reddy said the community’s involvement is what gives the event its heart.
“This event shows what happens when people come together with love and purpose,” he said.

“Every toy donated, every volunteer who shows up all creates magic for the children who need it most. We’re asking the community to help us make this year even more impactful.”

The fun day will once again take place at the TREE campus near the Briardene settlement, providing a safe and welcoming space for families. Donations and volunteer support are still urgently needed to help organisers reach their goal.

Co-founder Johann van den Berg encouraged residents to contribute in any way they can.

“Whether you drop off a toy, assist on the day, or simply show up, every act of kindness helps create an unforgettable experience,” he said.
