Three suspects arrested, one fatally wounded after Avoca hijacking

On two separate occasions involving the Avoca hijacking suspects, a shoot-out ensued, during which one led to a suspect being fatally wounded.

THREE suspects, allegedly linked to an Avoca Hills hijacking, were arrested on Thursday morning (December 5) after two separate shoot-outs.

A fourth suspect was fatally wounded in one of the shoot-outs in KwaMashu after the hijacking.

Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT), in collaboration with the Greenwood Park SAPS and Phoenix SAPS Trio Crimes units, was involved in the operation.

“The incident began with the hijacking of a blue Ford EcoSport on Avocado Grove in Avoca Hills. The team tracked the vehicle to the Inanda area,” explained Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

“On arrival, the hijacked vehicle was found parked with suspects inside. As officers approached, the suspects opened fire. Members returned fire, injuring one suspect and apprehending another, while others fled the scene. A signal jammer and vehicle-breaking tools were also recovered,” he said.

Through investigations, SAPS Crime Intelligence (CI) discovered that the remaining suspects were in the KwaMashu area, driving a white Suzuki.

“While patrolling KwaMashu, officers spotted the vehicle. Once again, the suspects exited and opened fire. In the ensuing action, two suspects were arrested and another was fatally wounded after firing on the officers. A firearm, the victim’s driver’s licence and business cards were recovered from the deceased suspect,” Powell said.
