Security guards attacked, one shot dead near King Shaka Airport

The guards were on perimeter patrol near the airport when they were attacked.

TWO security guards were attacked while conducting perimeter patrols near King Shaka International Airport on Tuesday evening.

One of the guards was fatally wounded and was pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics.

Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said the second guard remains in critical condition.

“On arrival of crews, it was established that two security guards had been conducting perimeter patrols in their vehicle when they were attacked by unknown assailants. The suspects also hijacked the vehicle. Both guards were shot multiple times.

“One of the guards managed to flag down a passing taxi, which took the man to the airport police station. Unfortunately, one of the two officers succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene. The second officer is in critical condition and was stabilised by paramedics,” he said.

Herbst also offered his condolences to the family of the deceased security guard.
