Suspect arrested after Effingham break-in

The suspect was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS.

A SUSPECT who had allegedly stolen items from a home in Effingham was arrested on Monday morning.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said they were alerted to an incident at 06:50.

“We received reports via a WhatsApp crime alert group of a suspect walking with a door and security gate on Belmont Road. Our officers were dispatched and spotted the suspect a few minutes later walking on Belmont Road with the items.

“When the suspect spotted our officers, he attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. It was established that the door and security gate had earlier been stolen from a property on Belmont Road,” he said.

The suspect was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS and was charged with housebreaking and theft.

In a separate incident in Springfield Park, a suspect was arrested for attempted theft from a business on Ashfield Avenue.

“Our officer spotted the suspect attempting to steal building material, and he started running through the business premises where he was apprehended,” Powell said.

The suspect was also handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS.
