Durban SPCA appeals for help with dog food donations

On average, the association feeds more than 200 dogs on a daily basis.

THE Durban & Coast SPCA has asked the north Durban community to assist with donations as their dog food stocks are running dangerously low.

Marketing manager of the association Tanya Fleischer said the SPCA feeds more than 200 dogs on a daily basis.

“In recent times, we’ve seen a decrease in food donations and a marked increase in the number of pets being brought in to our SPCA by owners who simply can’t afford to keep them or who are downsizing to homes where animals are not permitted.

“We’ve had an influx of strays and abandoned dogs since December, so our numbers are still high. We feed up to 250 dogs daily, and it would be very costly for us to buy food. While any donations are welcome, we do have preferred brands that are good for dogs. The best brand that is affordable is BobTail,” Fleischer explained.

She added that those willing to assist can contact the association’s marketing office on 031 579 6534 or email info@spcadbn.org.za.

“People are also welcome to make a donation on our website: www.spcadbn.org.za,” she said.
