Lace up for Gran and Gramps walk along uMhlanga Promenade

The event is open to everyone, and participants are encouraged, where possible, to donate toiletries for beneficiary projects the Rotary Club has identified.

THE Rotary Club of Umhlanga will hold its Gran and Gramps 5km Walk on Thursday, May 4.

The annual walk starts at 08:30 and includes a walk along the picturesque uMhlanga Promenade, starting and ending at Durban View Park.

The event is open to everyone, and participants are encouraged, where possible, to donate toiletries for beneficiary projects the Rotary Club has identified.

Clive Hull, who has been organising the annual event, said the event has a multi-pronged approach.

“The main purpose is to create a social opportunity for retired people. So often, we see people reconnecting at the events, having worked together or lived near each other, rekindling old friendships. Secondly, we also want to provide some exposure for the Rotary Club. And finally, we use this event to raise funds for various projects the club is working on,” he said.

He added there is a limit to entries and that pre-registration was essential.

“The important thing is to have fun. So if people can’t manage the 5km, they don’t have to – just come and enjoy the atmosphere. There are no prizes for winning,” he said.
