Foundation’s volunteers enjoy debut cycle
The 3 Youth Workers in the Nutrition and Life Skills Programme engage learners every day through the values-based Life Skills Programme.
THE Domino Foundation’s offices in Durban North became a temporary training cycle track for the ‘Youth Team Dominators’. Never ones to shy away from a challenge, three of the Youth Workers in the Nutrition and Life Skills Programme seized the opportunity to #Ride4Good in the aQuellé Tour Durban on Sunday, 14 May.
The determined threesome pushed through to the finish line of the 28km road event and pulled off creditable performances at the two-hour mark as first-time riders.
The Domino Foundation is the beneficiary of the iconic aQuellé Tour Durban cycle MTB race and road event, and so the trio decided to not only have their programmes on the receiving end of the funds but also to play a proactive part in generating those funds.
Every day, Sibongiseni Mathokazi, Sicelo Miya and Wandile Ntsimbi engage learners through the values-based Life Skills Programme or through the healthy meals that get delivered to grades 4 to 7 learners. Their aim is for the young people to understand the vital need to make wise lifestyle choices, which affect their roles as active citizens in their homes, communities and in South Africa.

“Our aim is to equip individuals so their community is changed for good, and one of the strongest values we push is that they are part of the solution,” said Ntsimbi.
Miya, who teaches soccer, isiZulu and gumboot dancing in the learners’ extra mural sessions and so is no stranger to physical activity, said the aQuellé Tour Durban was an incredible experience which he will definitely ride again next year.
Along the route, they were given lots of encouragement at each of the water tables manned by Domino colleagues and teams of volunteers.
“Thanks for the support, friends of Domino,” said Mathokazi.
