According to Airports Company South Africa, there were no interruptions to the operations of the airport.
A FIRE alarm forced the evacuation of King Shaka International Airport on Friday afternoon.
According to Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) spokesperson Gopolang Peme, a smoke sensor in one of the retail shops set off the alarm just after 15:00.
“King Shaka International Airport can confirm that a fire alarm went off at 15:17 today. The system picked up smoke due to a double-knock activation of smoke sensors in one of our retailer shops.

“The system activated in line with the system design for detection of fire in the specific zone. The design is in line with the fire-protection design protocols. We can confirm that there was no harm to our passengers and staff,” she said.
Peme added that there were no interruptions to the operations of the airport.
“We would like to express our sincere apologies to all our passengers and visitors for the inconvenience and unnecessary concern this might have given rise to. We urge our passengers to continue to observe all emergency protocols while visiting our airport,” she said.
