Man shot dead in robbery at Effingham park

The suspects only made off with the victim’s wallet in the robbery.

GREENWOOD Park police are investigating a case of murder after a couple were robbed and attacked in a park on Bhoola Road in Effingham on Saturday evening.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, two suspects accosted the couple before fatally wounding the male victim in the robbery.

“Reports from the scene indicate the suspects were armed with firearms. They robbed the couple in the park, and during the robbery, the boyfriend was shot. He sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was declared deceased by Netcare 911 Paramedics,” he said.

The suspects only made off with the victim’s wallet.

Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall said his officers also responded to the scene as multiple gunshots were heard.

“Our officers provided assistance and informed the family about the incident. We notified trauma counsellors to provide support to the traumatised female victim, who received their assistance shortly thereafter. We extend our deepest condolences to the grieving family,” Sooklall said.
