Third title and counting for Durban North author
Nkhasi and the Chocolate River is available at Exclusive Books and Bargain Books, government libraries, some independent bookshops and a few schools.

SELF-PUBLISHED author Chanisse Kara has written yet another book.
The Durban North resident, who goes by the name, CK Kara, recently launched her third book, Nkhasi and the Chocolate River, in uMhlanga recently.

Since 2019, she has sold 1 500 of her five different titles, which include three books with two titles inside and a motivational speech.
She spoke to Northglen News about where her love for writing came from.
“I have always been involved in creative arts, such reading, drawing, movies and drama classes from childhood up until now,” she said.
Her passion for writing flared up at a time in her life when she was stuck in a working industry which she says she certainly did not belong in.
“My unhappiness was overcome by writing unpublished draft versions of a fantasy series. I am eagerly awaiting for an overseas publisher to take this on,” she said.
In 2016, Kara got published in government libraries, and after that, her life changed for the better.
She has written three books to date, one of which is a crime-fiction book, 13 Hours on Trial, Red Riding Wolf, which is a dark fantasy, and now her third book which is an isiZulu, English and Afrikaans fantasy book called Nkhasi and the Chocolate River.
“Nkhasi and the Chocolate River is about a kind little boy named Nkhasi who likes animals. His hometown is the Valley of a Thousand Hills. He enters a fantasy watering hole, and the river is made of chocolate instead of water. When he returns home one day, he fetches chocolate milk instead of the water his mother asked him to get, and so the story goes,” she said.
“I wrote this book for a TV commercial but that never worked out. I think if I secure a traditional publishing house, they could require rights for TV or a film hopefully,” she said.
Kara has sold 400 copies of the book and says this certainly won’t be the last book she writes.
“I want my unpublished fantasy series and true crime memoir, which is not yet released, to find a publishing house and then for them to eventually be turned into films. I have always admired Warner Bros and Disney Studios since I was little. This would be a dream come true,” said Kara.
