Woman’s body recovered from surf in uMdloti
The woman’s body was spotted by a fisherman on Thursday morning.
DURBAN North police have opened an inquest docket following the recovery of a woman’s body found floating in the surf in uMdloti.
Authorities were alerted to the incident after a fisherman spotted the woman’s body just after 04:00 on Thursday morning.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson, Prem Balram, the woman had cuts on her head and was naked.

“A fisherman contacted RUSA at approximately 04:14 after he noticed a naked woman floating in the surf. According to the caller, fishermen were unsuccessful in retrieving the body due to high tide. Reaction officers were immediately dispatched to the beach and retrieved the body from the surf. The deceased sustained lacerations to her head,” he said.
Spokesperson for Durban North SAPS Nonhlanhla Shozi confirmed they were investigating the case.
“At this stage, an inquest docket has been opened, and investigations are ongoing. The deceased had several cuts to her forehead and was naked when her body was recovered from the surf on the North Beach Road side in uMdloti,” she said.
