Skills hub in Durban North produces first graduates
The guest of honour, Dr Adam Mahomed, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasising the need for the support of the broader community in providing employment for people with autism.
ACTION in Autism’s Shahumna Business and Skills Transfer Hub held its first graduation ceremony recently where twelve students received certificates of completion.
The programme, which took two years to complete, was comprised of skills that equip students to enter mainstream employment.

Ashvir Dalu, programme manager, said that urban farming, cooking and baking, and mosaic murals were taught to the students.
“This venture is unique in South Africa, and we are proud to recognise the efforts of the educators, parents and, most of all, the students, for their talent and hard work,” he said.
“Shahumna remains deeply appreciative of the ongoing funding from Dr Mahomed, in memory of his daughters, Shamima, Humeira and Nadia,” said Action in Autism director Nadia Bhayat.
The hub continues to look for partnerships from organisations to help provide employment opportunities for the young men and women.
