Northwood School welcome new headmaster in style

Headmaster Garth Shaw cycled 600km over nine days to fundraise for his old school Dale College.

NORTHWOOD School welcomed its new headmaster, Garth Shaw, in fine fashion last week, after he cycled 600km from his old school, Dale College, over nine days.

Shaw was joined by his father, Vincent, and Northwood School’s cycling coach, Cayde Muldoon, along the route which took them along the Wild Coast.

The final few kilometres of the epic journey saw learners, members of Go!Durban Cycle Academy KwaMashu and others ride into the entrance of the school on Adelaide Tambo Drive.

The contingent was welcomed by parents, learners and staff with messages of support as well as the school band.

The nine-day ride also acted as a fundraiser as Shaw donated 100% of the donations to the ‘Andy Andrews Financial Assistance Fund’, which will be for the benefit of learners from eQonce (King Williams Town) who cannot afford the school fees charged by Dale College.

“I want to thank everyone who has made this trip possible. The team, both from Dale College and Northwood School, has been phenomenal. To see this fundraising project come together has just been amazing,” he said.

He also thanked his father, Vincent, as well as the support crew and driver along the route.

Acting headmaster of Northwood School Reggie Govender welcomes the new headmaster, Garth Shaw. Shaw cycled from his old school, Dale College, on a nine-day fundraising cycle.
