Attempted hijacking leads to theft on Chris Hani Road

The suspects were unable to start the vehicle and stole several items from the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

MEMBERS of law enforcement are searching for four armed suspects who were involved in an attempted hijacking incident on Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) on Tuesday (September 3).

The incident, which took place at around 19:45, also saw the unsuccessful hijackers flee the scene on foot.

Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall said it was unclear if the suspects had a getaway vehicle waiting nearby.

“We received a call from a concerned resident reporting a disturbance at a business premises on Chris Hani Road, Redhill. Upon arriving, our officers spoke with the employees and the victim at the premises. They reported that four armed suspects approached the victim on foot and attempted to hijack their Haval vehicle.

“However, the suspects were unable to start the vehicle. Unable to take the vehicle, the suspects then stole the victim’s personal belongings before fleeing the scene on foot. Witnesses in the area indicated that the suspects fled on foot, but it was unclear if they had a vehicle waiting nearby,” he said.

No arrests have yet been made.
