REDWOOD College La Lucia’s Bryn Thomas is looking forward to the challenges ahead after being named the school’s new headmaster.
Thomas takes over from Bjorn Teunissen, who was the school principal for four years.
With more than 20 years of service to education, Thomas has served in many roles, including teaching at St. Stithian’s College and leading St. Dominic’s and Curro Salt Rock as principal.

Speaking to Northglen News, Thomas said he has been welcomed with open arms by the community.
“I always knew about Redwood College and I always thought it was a beautiful school. You never know where you are going to go and God sends us to different places for different reasons. I’m happy that it was here. The staff, learners and parents have been wonderful and so supportive and it really has made the adjustment to my role so much easier,” he said.
Thomas shared a part of his vision for the school.
“We live our faith here through the curriculum and practice. My vision is quite simple wherever I go, to encourage our learners to be good human beings who contribute to society and to love God. Of course I would also love to grow the numbers at the school and to improve our sports teams and be academically strong,” he said.

Thomas also spoke about how his involvement in sport helped shape him.
“Since the age of 12 I wanted to be an educator but it was my cricket journey that set me on my path. I used to play professional cricket for Border and I suffered an injury. I was asked to help with younger teams. I didn’t have any coaching qualifications, just my own experience but when I saw that little twinkle in somebody else’s eye when I taught them something and they got it, it just motivated me. It still motivates me today. God has blessed me to have the opportunity to be in education and I’ve had wonderful years and I hope to have many more,” he said.
