THE eThekwini Municipality has urged residents to remain vigilant and take precautions following the issuing of Level 2 Impact-Based Warnings for damaging winds and damaging waves by the SA Weather Service (SAWS).

Already two incidents have been reported in Durban North, one on Eastview Road and the other on Umhlanga Rocks Drive.

Both incidents led to traffic being affected while the incident on Eastivew Road led to both sides of the road being affected.

According to the municipality, the winds are expected to continue through to the early hours of Friday, August 28, with eThekwini among the areas most affected.

“Strong southerly to south-westerly winds averaging between 30km/h and 40km/h, gusting up to 70km/h, are expected along the coast, with significant wave heights of between 4m and 4.5m,” the City said in a statement.

The City also urged beachgoers, anglers and ocean users to stay away from beaches, coastal rocks, piers and shoreline areas.

Emergency response teams from across the City are on high alert and on standby to clear fallen trees, debris and blocked stormwater infrastructure, and to assist affected communities.
