La Lucia shopping mall gives back to charity
La Lucia Mall has supported Wylie House for a second time by donating proceeds from its photos with Santa initiative, held in December every year.

FOR two consecutive years now, La Lucia Mall has chosen Wylie House as a beneficiary for money raised from Christmas photos taken with Santa over the December period.
Last year, the non-profit organisation received R10 000 from the initiative and this year, they were ecstatic to learn that the amount had doubled.

“Photos with Santa are always popular at La Lucia Mall, and we thought this was a great opportunity to give back, by donating R5 from every photo to an organisation who supports those in need. We chose Wylie House as a beneficiary because of the wonderful work they do to assist children who have experienced some form of emotional and physical trauma and require management, care, protection and treatment,” said Cindene Sheasby, marketing manager for La Lucia Mall.
The initiative itself raised R10 000 and the additional R10 000 was generously donated by a friend of Guy Wentworth-Hayne, the photographer who captures these beautiful moments with Santa.
Nazli Finch, manager of Wylie House, said the organisation supports a total of 38 learners, who have now been assisted with their back-to-school essentials through the sponsorship from La Lucia Mall.
Numbers have declined as government funding has been cut and Wylie House relies on fundraising, not only for their various programmes but for operational costs too.
“We receive requests for school supplies every January which is usually such a tough month, but thanks to La Lucia Mall and all those who had their photos taken with Santa, we are able to assist our children. Thank you to the mall and the donor who matched the amount raised. The initiative came at the right time,” said Finch.
If you’d like to support Wylie House, purchase a ticket to the ’90s Mania show at Suncoast Theatre on March 30. The show starts at 14:00. Tickets cost R270 and can be purchased by calling 031 202 9410.
