UWC edge Comets in Durban North

The Comets scored six tries for the second successive game.

IT may only be two games into their FNB Varsity Shield but the FNB Varsity College Comets have shown why their brand of attacking rugby marks them as one of the standouts of the competition.

Last year the Comets lost in the final of their first appearance at the tournament and they hope to go one step further this year by lifting the trophy.

On Friday, the Comets lost 36-40 to the FNB UWC at the IIE’s Varsity College Durban North.

The Comets scored six tries and opened the scoring through debutant Edward Siguake but some ill-discipline could have cost them as they had three players yellow-carded in the game.

Also on the scoresheet was Okuhlekodwa Meyiwa, who scored a brace while Jacques Marais, Anwill Prins and Chris Els all scored a try each.

The Comets are on the road this week when they face newcomers FNB Sol Plaatje University (SPU) in Kimberley on Friday, February 28.
