Youth orchestra to hit the right notes [Friday, May 9]
The KwaZulu-Natal Youth Orchestra (KZNYO) will team up with various Durban Girls ensembles at Durban Girls College. This is an annual collaboration and features DGC’s senior primary and high school choir and orchestra.
Two of the College high girls will be singing with the massed ensembles.
The evening will commence at 18:00 and is just over an hour long.
A variety of music will be performed from classical music through to Miley Ray Cyrus’ Flowers.

- Booking for the show is through Quicket and tickets cost R100, and R50 for pensioners and scholars.

Picnic under a full moon [Friday, May 9]
The Durban Hiking and Adventures group will host a Full Moon Beach Picnic at Glenashley Beach (exact spot to be shared via WhatsApp) on Friday, May 9.
The picnic is open to anyone. Whether you’re a nature lover, a stargazer, or just looking for a peaceful night out, this event is all about good vibes, great company, and unforgettable moments.
There are limited spots available and tickets cost R199 per person and R129 for children U13. The entry fee includes a blanket (limited), a bluetooth speaker and a power bank.
The picnic starts at 17:30 until late.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a camping chair and extra blanket. Bring your own food and drinks.
If it rains, refunds will be processed.

Zoot n Scoot at Cornubia Mall [Saturday, May 10]
Zoot n Scoot is back for its third instalment at Cornubia Mall on Saturday, May 10.
The popular push-bike event will see riders aged three to 12 take to the mall’s walkways for a lively race around the centre’s common areas.
Set to take place from 07:30 to 09:30, the format remains simple: children ride their own bikes through the designated course, either solo or with some assistance from their parents.
The event is held in a safe and contained area of the mall, making it an ideal outing for young participants and their supporters.
This year’s event includes three race categories: Mini Movers (ages 3-5), Speedy Sprinters (ages 6-8), and Trail Blazers (ages 9-12).
A trophy will be awarded to the winner in each category, with additional prizes for the best decorated bike, the best dressed rider and the most enthusiastic participant.
Entry is R85 per child and each entrant will receive a goodie bag filled with treats. Children must bring their own bikes and safety gear such as helmets and pads.

Enjoy free concerts at the Pav for Mother’s Day [Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11]
The Pavilion Shopping Centre is honouring mothers on Mother’s Day with two free live performances by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, and a free charity gift wrapping station in partnership with St Martins Diocesan Homes for Children.
There will be two hour-long Mother’s Day-themed concerts by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Chad Hendricks at the Fountain Court on the Cinema Level at 13:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
They have also partnered with St Martins Diocesan Homes for Children, who will offer free gift-wrapping services to shoppers who spend R250 or more on a Mother’s Day gift at any store in the Centre.
The wrapping station on the lower level, opposite Edgars, will operate until May 10 from 10:00 to 19:00.

Enjoy tribute show to Neil Diamond [Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11]
Paying respect to the music of legendary artist, composer and performer, Neil Diamond, are Durban’s top tribute band ‘Barry Thomson and The Reals’.
Front man Barry will be on guitar and vocals, musical director Dawn Selby on keyboards and vocals, Mali Sewell on drums and vocals, and talented Robz Millar on bass guitar for the show entitled Diamond Forever: The Music of Neil Diamond at the Rhumbelow Theatre, 42 Cunningham Road, Umbilo.
Included in this new revamped production are Diamond’s hit songs Cracklin’ Rosie, Song Sung Blue, Longfellow Serenade, America, Sweet Caroline, I’m A Believer and more.

Support charity with laughter [Thursday, May 15]
Durban’s favourite comedic couple, Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert, are joining Hearts in Hands, a non-profit organisation that focuses on sustainable refurbishments and building of Early Childhood Development centres.
The show, entitled Mirth & Melodies, takes place on Thursday, May 15, at the Willow Way Manor, 1 Willow Way, Hillcrest (09:00 to 12:00).
The couple’s sidesplitting show is a must-see.
Also performing at the event are musos, The Meditators, who have released six albums.
All funds raised will go towards uplifting the Lusana Crèche in KwaNgcolosi.
Tickets cost R420 per person which includes breakfast.
