Northlands Girls’ learner shines in national essay competiton

Saanvi Chitra’s essay was one of more than 1000 entries from across the country.

NORTHLANDS Girls’ High School learner Saanvi Chitra was recently awarded first place in the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Essay Competition.

The competition was held in celebration of 30 Years of Democracy in South Africa.

Saanvi’s essay was one of more than 1000 entries from across the country.

The Grade 10 learner received a range of prizes including a laptop and a set of reading books (featuring her published essay), while the school was awarded a wireless router.

Rajesh Harilal, deputy principal of the school, congratulated Saanvi on her achievement.

“Her insightful and thought-provoking writing not only earned her top honours, but also led to her work being officially published, making her a published author while still in high school. This remarkable accomplishment reflects Saanvi’s passion, intellect, and dedication, and we are extremely proud of her success. Her achievement is an inspiration to all our learners,” he said.
