Three injured in head-on collision on M4
Three people were seriously injured in the accident on the M4.
ONE person has been airlifted to hospital following a serious head-on collision on the M4 Ruth First highway on Tuesday morning (May 27).
In all three people were seriously injured in the accident just before the Virginia off-ramp.
It is unclear how the accident occurred, however, the highway was closed for several minutes to allow for paramedics to airlift one of the critically injured patients to hospital.

Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, said when they arrived on scene two badly damaged vehicles were obstructing both the southbound and northbound lanes of the highway.
“Three patients had sustained critical injuries and paramedics worked to stabilise them on the scene. Due to the severity of one of the injured the Air Mercy Aeromedical Helicopter was called to assist in rapidly transporting the patient to hospital. The highway was closed whilst emergency personnel worked to clear the scene. The other two patients were transported to hospital,” he said.
Andreas Mathios of Marshall Security, who was also on scene, said the northbound freeway is moving again however traffic in and around the roads leading to the M4 were severely backlogged.
“Metro Police are diverting motorists on the M4 southbound onto Fairway to go around,” he said.
